Pollinator gardens support and maintain pollinators (bees, butterflies, other insects, etc.) by supplying food in the form of pollen and nectar that will ensure that these important animals stay in the area to keep pollinating our crops for continued fruit and vegetable production. Pollinator gardens are one of the most flexible, cost-effective, and timeless educational tools available. These gardens provide clear, real-life examples of the interdependent nature of our food ecosystem, and the valuable services that pollinators – yes, even insects – provide to human society. Join in this movement by planting a pollinator garden in your own yard. Plan to attend this informational workshop that can help you get started.

Sponsored by ReGreen Springfield, the Greening the Gateway Cities Program, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, this four-hour workshop will introduce the basics of installing a pollinator garden in your own yard. Choosing a site for the garden, selecting the appropriate species and construction/planting techniques will be outlined in the workshop. Participants will receive printed resources that will help in the planning of their own garden. This workshop will be followed by the availability of online consultation by the instructors as you develop a plan for your garden. Funded in part by a grant from the New England Grassroots Foundation.

The workshop is limited to 15 participants. Pre-registration is needed to attend this program.
