Volunteers Plant New Trees in Upper Hill Neighborhood

Volunteers from Regreen Springfield, Berkshire Bank, the City of Springfield Forestry Division, the High School of Commerce, American International Charter School, Smith & Wesson, Stop & Shop and the University of Massachusetts worked hard on April 10th to plant new shade trees in Springfield’s Upper Hill Neighborhood.  The project, funded by the Berkshire Bank Foundation, aimed to restore the tree canopy on two residential streets in the neighborhood.  The Sycamores trees will beautify these streets and give the environment a boost…and that sits well with those giving up their time to make a difference.

“Part of what Berkshire Bank does is provide our employees with paid time-off to volunteer, so this one of a series of projects that we do throughout the area,” says Gary Levante from Berkshire Bank.  Christina Grey, a student from AIC, explains, “I’ve never done planting trees like with this, but I always like planting. My father was a farmer. I just love planting”.
