‘Street Colors’ Brings Fall Excitement to the South End

On 29272581103_61cd44be90_oSaturday, September 24th, over 50 volunteers from the Regreen Springfield, the South End Middle School, HAP Housing, the C3 Community Police Initiative and local business partners planted Mums in all of the flower containers along Main Street.  The project will add a bright fall decor to landscape along both sides of the street from Red Rose Pizzeria south to HAP Housing.

The effort was spearheaded by a team from HAP Housing and Regreen Springfield, and served as the first of several regreening efforts planned for the South End Neighborhood over the next year.  In the Spring, the planters will be filled with ornamental perennial flowers and grasses, in an effort to provide beauty the streetscape all summer long.

Over 120 Mums were planted during the morning work session, which concluded with a community lunch at the South End Middle School.
